Returning Soon

Hello to all three of you who are left. I apologize for the long absence.

As I said in my last post (whenever the hell it was) my Mother-In-Law was not doing well at all. Since just before Christmas she was in the hospital, rehab, and finally hospice. I am sad to report that she passed away about a month ago and the past month has been spent going through her things, moving them out of her apartment, and just generally settling up her affairs. It’s not all finished yet, but enough so that I will be making a return to blogging very soon.

Much has happened in the world since I last posted anything of any consequence. But one thing has not changed, our government in Washington is still taking this nation down the tubes at WARP speed.

Ergo, there is much to write about and I cannot wait to get started. Stay tuned, there will be a post coming forth later this week.

If you are reading this, thank you for hanging with me.

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Or…… it loses you your audience.

Once again, I apologize for the blog absence. Mother-in-law is not doing well, she has been getting worse since the holidays. We are not sure how long she has, we just take it day by day and pray for the best. Meanwhile, it’s wait, wait, wait.

Trust me when I say, I will be back as soon as possible. There’s much to complain about.

Thanks for checking on me.

Another Blast From the Past

Lots going on and will be on hiatus, but just for the coming week or so. Certainly, there will be no time for blogging.

Meanwhile, we’ll leave you with a song from Seger:

Follow L.A. Sunset

Not off of a bridge… I am not leading anyone off of a bridge, because I’m not jumping. I cannot expect anyone else to go where I wouldn’t, no way, no how. BUT… you can still follow me a little ways, as I have finally joined the ranks of Twitter.

So, be ye all forewarned. L.A. is now in the tweet zone. AND…it may never be the same again. (Either that or no one will ever notice.)

Back From Boston.

Back from deep in the heart of the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, I have to say that I had a good time in Boston but am glad to be home. I had intended on posting a notice of my trip and that I would not be able to blog much. But time got away from me, as it sometimes does in a busy world.

There were some good learning moments at the conference I attended just a stones throw away from Boston Harbor. There was good food, good drinks, and I have some pictures that will never see the light of day as long as some people never cross me. I also got to meet one of our regulars here from time to time, Greg. He is a good guy and I appreciated him taking time to pick me up at the airport on day one, and showing me the oldest ball park in the country now.

During the time I was away, the big story in Boston was Mitt Romney bullying some kid in boarding school a generation ago. That got quite a bit of national and local news coverage, probably due to Romney being an ex-Governor and the media there being firmly anchored to the left. But on Friday, Mitt got a bit of a reprieve. Breaking news on all local newscasts, with updates every 5-10 minutes, centered on Red Sox David “Big Papi” Ortiz’s small fender bender during rush hour traffic, on his way to the ball park for an evening game. Everyone was okay, just some minor damage, the world went on as scheduled.

And so here I am, back in Indy with the 500 activities ready to crank up. Which may even mean some more tourist dollars in the local economy, which will go well with the money raked in during the Super Bowl. We need it, as does almost every other locality in the nation. I bet Jerry Brown would love a fraction of the revenue for the sinking ship he now captains, my birth state California.

Anyway….many thanks to Greg and the mere handful of people of Boston who made my trip enjoyable. And to the drunken jerks who screamed and shouted all night Friday night just outside Battery Park Pub, which was right down from my window, I hope you all get rashes.

More To Come

To what readers I still have, I’d like to take a moment and thank you for sticking with me here at The Public Cause. Most of you know that this journey began at Political Yen/Yang, a little over seven years ago when blogging was beginning to walk and talk. Only a handful of you still come here from the old digs, and I want you to know that I appreciate all of those who did, as well as those of you have come since the move.

Today, blogging is now in the teen stages of its life, and the most successful bloggers have been the one who (unlike yours truly) have had lots of time to devote to running a website. Today, we find the most successful bloggers (in terms of numbers only) had a name and a background at their inception. Some made their name entirely through the process, some have invited several other contributors on board to help when real life needed to be dealt with…the times when the blog had to be ignored.

My style has evolved over time, much like one’s life seems to do. I have tried to research events and tie them to the public interest in the form of one thorough essay. I have not had the time to do the work that a professional journalist does, for this is his/her job and it is what pays their bills. It isn’t mine and probably never will be, so it has been relegated to the last thing on the list….especially after a long grueling ten hour (plus) work day.

We all know that blogs are set up for different purposes. Some are for long essays, others merely aggregates of news story links with an aside comment or two. Some are a combination of both.

Lately, I have been posting the one essay per week format. When I began PYY, I did a combination of long and short posts just to keep people interested in what I was doing. I am going to return to that format and style, as time does permit. I cannot say how much more often I will be able to post with shorter posts, but there will definitely be more postings than my once a week + one music post.

I have said it before and will state it again, because it does bear repeating. It is not about numbers of hits, numbers of posts, or numbers of any kind. I am not making any money off of this at all. It is about quality, about message, and having the ability to make others think about what is happening in our world today…and where we are headed.

So thank you all again for reading this sleepy little blog and be sure to check back more frequently, when you can. I know most who read this site have their own blogs and have busy lives of their own too. That makes it even more special when someone like this is taking a valuable moment out of their day, to see what old LA is saying.

Progress Report

I went to the doctor yesterday and my count is normal after two rounds of chemo. Because of my horrible reaction to the second round, my doctor and I have elected to not pursue anymore treatments at this time.

The way I figure is, it took two and a half years for the White Count to grow from the 30s to the 80s. Since my count is now in the normal range (4), I figure I have 5-6 years before it could increase back up to a level where I will need treatment again. By then, hopefully, there will be a new drug that I can tolerate.

Thanks to all for your thoughts, prayers, and kind words. I feel much better now and look forward to tearing the Left a new orifice, every chance I get.
